titleOfInvention Preparation of epsilon-caprolactone
abstract 1364737 Ammoniation catalyst TEIJIN Ltd 2 Nov 1971 [4 Nov 1970 20 Nov 1970] 50917/ 71 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] Catalysts used in the ammoniation of e-caprolactone to form #-caprolactam comprises CuO/TiO 2 (Example 5a), copper chromite/BaO (Example 7a) and CuO/TiO 2 /NiO (Examples 8a and 12a) and are obtained, in the case of the mixed oxides, by calcining the precipitates formed on adding an aqueous Na 2 CO 3 solution to aqueous suspensions of TiO 2 in the nitrates of copper + nickel. The TiO 2 used has diameters of 28 to 35Á. The copper chromite/BaO catalyst is prepared by adding an aqueous solution of (NH 4 ) 2 Cr 2 O 7 /NH 3 to an aqueous solution of the nitrates of copper and barium and calcining the precipitated powder. The catalysts are reduced in situ using H 2 prior to use in the ammoniation reaction.
