titleOfInvention Preparation of purified normal paraffins
abstract 1360937 Pacifying hydrocarbons KANEGAFUCHI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 17 Oct 1972 [21 Oct 1971 (2)] 47732/72 Heading C5E Normal paraffins having a viscosity of at least 1 centipoise at 25‹ C. are treated to remove polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, in particular benzpyrene, by passing them through a chamber containing particles of alumina or alumina containing up to 15 wt. per cent silica of 8 to 100 mesh (B.S.S.) particle size, at a temperature of 20 to 100‹ C. at a rate sufficient to reduce the concentration of the polycyclic hydrocarbons to < part in 10<SP>9</SP>. The paraffins exemplified contain 12 to 25 carbon atoms.
