abstract 1360826 Sulphonation process LION FAT & OIL CO Ltd 30 July 1971 [31 July 1970] 35925/71 Heading C2C A method for effecting the isothermal sulphonation of a liquid organic compound comprises passing air or an inert gas as the cooling gas between a filmy stream of the liquid organic compound and an SO 3 - inert gas stream in parallel therewith, the amount of cooling gas introduced being from 2 to 12 times that of the said SO 3 -inert gas and the velocity of both gases being substantially the same and in the range of from 20-100 m./sec. Examples describe the sulphonation of (C 15 -C 18 ) α-olefins, straightchain alkylbenzenes, a (C 12 -C 13 ) synthetic alcohol and a condensation product of such an alcohol with ethylene oxide.
