abstract | 1359290 t-Butylhydroquinone KODAK Ltd 12 Aug 1971 [14 Aug 1970] 39282/70 Heading C2C t-Butylhydroquinone is prepared by the sublimation of 2,5-di-t-butylhydroquinone at reduced pressure through a bed of a Friedel- Crafts catalyst. Preferred catalysts are boron phosphate, silicon phosphate, aluminium phosphate, a molecular sieve, or mixtures thereof and the preferred pressure is from 0À10 to 0À50 mm Hg. Hydroquinone and isobutylene are recovered as by-products. The t-butyl-hydroquinone is useful as an antioxidant and a polymerization inhibitor. |
