abstract | 1357631 Polyurethane foams IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971] 2833/71 Heading C3R Flexible foamed polyurethanes are prepared by reacting together in the presence of a blowing agent and a conventional cross-linking agent free from phosphorus and of molecular weight not exceeding 500, a polyether having 3 or 4 hydroxyl groups and a polyisocyanate composition comprising from 70 to 90% by weight of a tolylene diisocyanate and from 30 to 10% by weight of a diarylmethane diisocyanate composition containing related triisocyanate and higher polyisocyanates in addition to diisocyanate. In an example a mixture of 80 : 20 TDI and a crude diphenylmethane diisocyanate, containing diisocyanate triisocyanate and higher functionality isocyanate, such as may be prepared by phosgenating an acid catalysed aniline-formaldehyde condensation product, is reacted with an ethylene oxide tipped oxypropylated glycerol of hydroxyl value 32 mg. KOH/gm. and having 13% of the alkylene oxide units derived from ethylene oxide, in presence of water as a blowing agent, triethylamine and 1,4-diazabicyclo- (2,2,2)octane as catalysts, and a triethanolamine cross-linking agent. |
