1356802 Polyolefin-maleic anhydride reaction products BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 15 May 1972 [24 May 1971] 16626/71 Heading C3P Polyalkenyl succinic anhydrides are prepared by reacting a polyolefin with maleic anhydride in the presence of up to 0À2 weight per cent of iodine, added after at least 25% of the polyolefin has reacted. The polyolefin may be a polyisobutylene, isobutylene/butene copolymer, polypropylene, polybutene-1, polybutene-2 or poly 4-methylpentene-1. The products may be converted to polyalkenyl succinimides. Examples describe the reaction of polyisobutylenes of molecular weight 1250 and 2500. |
