abstract 1355786 Uronic acid derivatives of cellulose GALLAHER Ltd 25 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972] 4497/72 Addition to 1355785 Heading C3A Oxidized polysaccharide, preferably cellulose, is obtained by pre-oxidizing with NO 2 to give a product having no more than 14% of the theoretical maximum number of uronic acid groups, and then further oxidizing this product by means of nitrosonium ion as in the parent Specification. Although liquid NO 2 may be used, it is preferred to use gaseous NO 2 generated by oxidizing the NO gives off during the nitrosonium ion oxidation.
