titleOfInvention Benzamidoethyl benzene sulphonamide derivatives
abstract 1355361 Benzamidoethyl benzene sulphonamide derivatives; 5-chloro-2-methoxy benzene derivatives FRANK W HORNER Ltd 17 May 1971 [29 May 1970] 15242/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises the compounds (a) p [2 - (5 - chloro - 2 - methoxybenzamido)- ethyl]-benzene sulphonamide and (b) p-[2-(5- chloro - 2 - methoxybenazmido)ethyl] - benzene sulphonyl chloride. Compound (b) may be obtained -by treating N-phenethyl-5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoate with chlorosulphonic acid. Compound (a) may be obtained by treating compound (b) with ammonia. The N-phenethyl-5- chloro-2-methoxybenzamide used as starting material may be obtained by treating methyl 5- chloro-2-methoxybenzoate with phenethylamine or by treating methyl-5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoate with sodium hydroxide to form 5-chloro-2- methoxybenzoic acid, reacting this with thionyl chloride to form 5-chloro-2-methoxy-benzoylchloride and reacting this with phenethylamine. The methyl-5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoate may be produced from 5-chlorosalicylic acid by treatment with dimethyl sulphate or by first forming the methyl ester and treating this with dimethyl sulphate.
