titleOfInvention Bleaching baths
abstract 1354583 Bleaching compositions HENKEL & CIE GmbH 21 Sept 1971 [10 Dec 1970 12 July 1971] 43855/71 Heading D1P [Also in Division C5] A bleaching composition particularly a bleach wash composition comprises 3-100% by weight of a bleaching component comprising (a) 99.99-95% by weight of a per compounding yielding H 2 O 2 in aqueous solution e.g. sodium perborates and peroxyhydrates of phosphates and carbonates, and an N-acyl or O-acyl compound containing an acyl residue R.CO in which R represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbon residue having 1-8C as activator for H 2 O 2 , the per-compound and activator being present in such amounts that at least 0.01 and at most 4 mol of activator are present per gram atom of active oxygen and (b) 0.01-5% of at least one brightener of the following types:-4,4'-bis-(naphthotriazolyl, triazolyl or pyrazolyl)-stilbene-2, 2'-disulphonic acids, stilbyl naphthotriazoles, of formula: wherein R 1 is H or halogen, R 2 is CN, SO 3 H or SO 2 NHR in which R is H or C 1-5 alkyl and R 3 is H or SO 3 H, bis-(benzoxazolyl) compounds of formula: in which R 4 is wherein X is NH, S or O and A is H, C 1-5 alkyl or aryl, 2-benzoxazolyl-4, 5-naphthothiophene compounds and diphenyl-distyryl compounds of formula: in which R 6 and R 7 are H or SO 3 H and R 8 and R 9 are phenyl or substituted phenyl, or the alkali metal, ammonium or amine salts thereof. Specified activators are polyacylated mono- and polyamines, N-alkyl-N-sulphonyl acyl amides, N-acyl hydantoins, cyclic N-acyl hydrazides, triacylcyanurates, anhydrides of benzoic or phthalic acid, O,N,N-trisubstituted hydroxylamines, N, N'-diacyl sulphuryl amides, 1, 3-diacyl-4, 5-diacyloxy-imidazolidines and acylated glycol urils. The compositions may also contain (i) corrosion inhibitors of the triazole or tetrazole type (ii) salts of part esters of fatty alcohols or their ethoxylation or propoxylation products and ortho, pyro or polyphosphoric acid (iii) alkaline earth metal cadmium and tin silicates, alkali metal carbonates, silicates and borates (iv) heavy metal complexing agents e.g. polyalkylene polyamino- N-polyacetic acids and their salts and alkylene amino polyphosphonic acids; (v) builder substances e.g. sulphates and polyphosphates (vi) enzymes (vii) antimicrobial agents e.g. 2-hydroxy-2', 4, 4'-trichloro-diphenyl ether (viii) soaps, nonionic, anionic of the sulphonate carboxylate or sulphate type and amphoteric surfactants, many are specified (ix) foam stabilisers and inhibitors and (x) dirt carriers e.g. organic water-soluble colloids. The compositions are used to treat textiles such as cotton, regenerated cellulose, linen, polyamide, polyester, polyacrylonitrile, polyurethane, PVC or polyvinylidene chloride materials.
