titleOfInvention Process for recovery of cyclohexanone
abstract 1353437 Recovery of cyclohexanone STAMICARBON NV 11 Oct 1972 [14 Oct 1971] 46946/72 Heading C2C Cyclohexanone is recovered from the conversion product obtained in the dehydrogenation of cyclohexanol and containing cyclohexanone, oyclohexanol and impurities including water, by azeotropically distilling the product with cyclohexane to remove the water, distilling the remaining product to distil off components having a boiling point lower than that of cyclohexanone and thereafter separating by distillation the cyclohexanone from the remaining fraction containing higher boiling components. The cyclohexanol may be that obtained as a by-product in the production of cyclohexanone by the oxidation of cyclohexane, and the cyclohexane oxidation product freed of acids, esters and non- converted cyclohexane, together with the conversion product obtained in the dehydrogenation of cyclohexanol, may be combined and subjected to the above treatment for removal of water. As shown in Fig. 1, these processes may be combined to form one continuous process. The oxidation product of cyclohexane from which acids, esters and non-converted cyclohexane have been removed is fed through line 1 to preliminary distillation column 2 where light impurities are removed, and thence to distillation column 5 where pure cyclohexanone is recovered through line 6. The remaining product flows to column 8 where cyclohexanol is distilled off overhead and is passed to dehydrogenation unit 11. The dehydrogenation product passes via condenser 13, where hydrogen is removed, to a drying zone 16 where water is removed by azeotropic distillation with cyclohexane. The dried product then flows through line 17 into line 1.
