abstract | 1352196 Amido-seleno ethers ILFORD Ltd 28 June 1972 [28 June 1971] 30259/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] A symmetrical selenoether of general formula where R 1 and R 2 are the same or different and are H atoms or C 1 -C 4 alkyl groups, or R 1 is H and R 2 is -NH 2 is prepared by one of the following methods: (a) Reacting a selenide ion with an ethylenically unsaturated compound of formula CH 2 = CHG where G is an electron withdrawing group selected from -COOR 3 and -CONR 1 R 2 where R 1 and R 2 are as above and R 3 is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group. The amides may be prepared from the esters as in (c) below. (b) A selenide ion may nucleophilically displace halogen from a compound of formula HalCH 2 CH 2 G where G is as defined above; or (c) Esters of the type produced in (a) and (b) may also be produced by reacting an alkyl acrylate with a selenide ion. The esters produced may be converted to the amide by reaction with excess amine. The compounds of Formula I are used to reduce the time taken for development in photography. |
