titleOfInvention | N-heterocyclic polyglycidyl compounds process for their manufacture and their use |
abstract | 1351058 N-heterocyclic polyglycidyl compounds CIBA-GEIGY AG 21 Feb 1972 [24 Feb 1971] 7983/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Novel N-heterocyclic polyglycidyl compounds of the formula wherein X and R are hydrogen or methyl; Z is a nitrogen-free, divalent radical which is required to complete a 5- or 6-membered, subitituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic ring; B is the residue obtained by removing the hydroxyl groups of an n-valent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, cycloaliphatic-aliphatic, araliphatic or heterocyclic-aliphatic polyol, and n is 2, 3 or 4, are obtained by epoxidizing a compound of the formula wherein Y is (a) an ethyl group or (b) a hydroxyhalo - 1 - methyl ethyl or hydroxyhaloethyl group wherein the hydroxy groups are carried by different carbon atoms. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of an agent which splits off hydrogen halide when Y is (b), or, if Y is (a), in the presence of hydrogen peroxide or a per-acid. The starting material may be prepared by reacting an epihalohydrin or #-methylepihalohydrin with a polyester of the formula in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. a tertiary amine, a quaternary ammonium base or a quaternary ammonium salt. |
