titleOfInvention Direct-positive silver halide photographic emulsions
abstract 1350279 Sensitized direct positive emulsions FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 1 Oct 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 45911/71 Heading G2C A direct positive emulsion comprises fogged silver halide grains and a sensitizing dye represented by one of the following tautomeric formulae: in which Z completes an optionally substituted benzene or napthalene ring: Z' completes an optionally substituted 5- or 6- membered heterocyclic ring to which one or more further rings may be fused: R and R' each represent an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl group, or allyl, at least one of R and R' having a carboxyl or sulpho radical substituent, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> each represent alkyl, aralkyl or allyl, L<SP>1</SP> is methine or substituted methine wherein the substituent completes a carbocyclic or heterocylic ring together with R, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> or L<SP>2</SP>, A is H or lower alkyl (1-5C): L<SP>2</SP> is methine or substituted methine wherein the substituent completes a carbocyclic or heterocylic ring together with R<SP>1</SP> or L<SP>1</SP> or, when Z<SP>1</SP> completes an indolenine ring substituted at the 3-position, with the 3-substituent thereof, X is an anion and n and m are each 0 or 1. The silver halide grains may be precipitated in the presence of a rhodium or inidium salt.
