titleOfInvention | Preparation of solutions of mixed uranium and plutonium nitrates |
abstract | 1349982 Nuclear fuel UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 12 Jan 1972 [18 Jan 1971] 2436/71 Heading G6C A mixed uranium and plutonium nitrate solution is prepared by mixing a Pu(IV) nitrate solution containing nitric acid with a diuranate, UO 3 , or a solution of UO 3 in uranyl nitrate solution. The plutonium solution may be obtained from a reprocessing plant solution by addition of hydrogen peroxide or by autoradiolysis. The nitrate concentration of the final solution may be slightly greater than, equal to, or less than that required for U(VI) and Pu(IV) valencies. The solution may be used for the preparation of mixed U and Pu oxides by the gel process or by thermal dinitration or for the co - precipitation of hydroxides or oxalates. |
