titleOfInvention | Loading sleeves for use in installing pistons |
abstract | 1348568 Piston inserting SEAL POWER CORP 1 Oct 1971 [12 Nov 1970] 45726/71 Heading F2T A sleeve 20 for inserting a piston into a cylinder comprises a body 22 having a tapered bore 30 and a lip at the exit end 26 for piloting the sleeve a short distance into the combustion chamber end of the cylinder. The sleeve may be made of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene or of polyurethane with a stainless steel liner (72), Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown). In use, the piston is first inserted into the sleeve from the entrance end 24, piston-rod first, to compress the piston rings. The piston is then lowered into the cylinder until the lip of the sleeve comes to rest within a chamfer at the end of the cylinder bore. The sleeve is then held while the piston is forced completely out and into the cylinder. To facilitate manual gripping of the sleeve, the outer surface may be ridged. |
