titleOfInvention | Preparation of a saponin-containing composition |
abstract | 1348324 Saponin- and sapogenin-containing products from Panax ginseng and related plants MEIJI SEIKA KAISHA Ltd 1 Sept 1971 [2 Sept 1970 (2)] 40676/71 Heading C2U [Also in Divisions A5 and C6] A saponin-containing composition is prepared by culturing under sterile conditions in a plant tissue culture medium, preferably in the dark, a callus strain, a crown gall strain of a redifferentiated root produced from living tissue of Panax ginseng, P. pseudoginseng, P. quinquefolium or P. japonicum, removing the cultured callus, crown gall or redifferentiated root from the medium and recovering the required composition, for example by drying and grinding the callus, gall or root, or by extracting it with an organic solvent, e.g. methanol, ethanol, nbutanol or acetone, and concentrating the extract. Subsequent hydrolysis then gives a sapogenin-containing product, the main constituent of which is panaxatriol. |
