abstract 1347009 Modifying plant growth SCOTTISH AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Nov 1971 [15 Dec 1970] 59525/70 Heading C1B [Also in Division C2] A method of modifying the growth of plants comprises applying to the plants, their seeds, or the medium in which they are grown, in an amount effective to enhance the yield and/or the nitrogen content thereof, a salt of ammonia or an organic base with an acid of formula wherein X is O or S; W is an alkyl group of up to 20 carbon atoms, 4,6-bisphosphonyl-2-S- triazinyl or -(CH 2 ) n -R where n is 0 to 7 and R is naphthyl or phenyl, and is optionally substituted with amino, halo, nitro, alkoxy, or alkyl groups; Y is OH or an amino group, optionally substituted; Z is as defined for W or Y or is 2-haloethyl; or W and Z are both 2- haloethyl; provided that at least one of Y and Z is OH. Typical salts used are those of aliphatic amines with 3-phenylpropylphosphonic, pchlorobenzylphosphonic and di - n - octylphosphinic acids. The salts may be applied as aqueous solutions or as compositions containing surfactants, insecticides, herbicides, solid diluents, fertilizers, fungicides and plant growth regulators.
