titleOfInvention | Halogenoacetanilides and herbicidal compositions containing them |
abstract | 1345667 Halogeno acetanilides CIBAGEIGY AG 31 Aug 1972 [1 Sept 1971] 40348/72 Heading C2C Halogeno acetanilides of the general formula in which R 1 and R 2 each independently represents hydrogen or alkyl containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R 3 represents hydrogen or the methyl group, R 4 represents cycloalkyl containing from 3 to 5 carbon atoms, and X represents chlorine or bromine are prepared by reacting (a) in an anhydrous solvent or solvent mixture at a temperature between - 20 and +110 C., a halogeno-acetyl halide of the Formula II Hal-CO-CH 2 X (in which Hal represents a halogen atom) with a phenylazomethine of the Formula III to give a halogeno-acetanilide and (b) reacting the halogeno-acetanilide obtained in (a) with an alkanol of the Formula IV in the presence of an inorganic or organic base as hydrogen halide binding agent, in the absence of water, in the presence or absence of a solvent and at a temperature between- 20 and +110 C. Several compounds are claimed per se and exemplified. The compounds have herbicidal properties. |
