titleOfInvention | Stabilization systems for polymers |
abstract | 1345563 Stabilized polymers GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 19 April 1971 [21 April 1970] 24658/71 Heading C3P Polymers containing 40 to 99À95 parts of 1,3-butadiene monomer, 0À05 to 5À0 parts by weight of divinyl benzene monomer and 0 to 59À95 parts by weight of styrene or acrylonitrile monomer the total parts being 100 and a stabilizing composition comprising (a) a phenolic compound of formula in which R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are hydrogen, C 1-12 alkyl groups, C 5-9 cycloalkyl groups, or C 7-12 aralkyl groups, and X is -CH 2 OCH 2 - or -CH 2 SCH 2 -, or -CR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>- in which R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are hydrogen or C 1-7 alkyl groups the sum of carbon atoms in R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> being 0-7, or a compound of formula in which R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> are hydrogen, C 1-12 alkyl groups, C 5-9 cycloalkyl groups, C 7-12 aralkyl groups, n<SP>1</SP> is 0 or 1, Y<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or C 1-2 alkyl group, (b) an epoxy stabilizer/plasticizer for polyvinylchloride, (c) at least one other stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride, the stabilizing composition being added prior to exposure of the polymer to conditions that result in post polymerization crosslinking. A further component may be a phosphite of formula in which R<SP>8</SP> is selected from alkyl radicals having 4 to 12 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl radicals of 5 to 9 carbon atoms and aralkyl radicals of 7 to 12 carbon atoms, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>9</SP> are hydrogen, C 4-12 alkyl radicals, C 5-9 cycloalkyl radicals or C 7-12 aralkyl radicals. |
