abstract 1345358 Anti-inflammatory preparations A H ROBINS CO Inc 8 Nov 1971 [16 Nov 1970] 51726/71 Heading A5B Anti-inflammatory preparations effective in preventing gastric irritation and bleeding of the gastric mucosa comprise a coprecipitate of an anti-inflammatory agent, such as aspirin, phenylbutazone or indomethacin, and a lignosulphonic acid or a salt thereof such as the ammonium, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium or lithium salt. The coprecipitate may be formed by acidifying an aqueous basic solution of an anti-inflammatory agent and a lignosulphonate and isolating the coprecipitate, e.g. by filtration or by spray drying. Pharmaceutical compositions for oral administration in the form of tablets or capsules comprise the coprecipitate and a carrier. The coprecipitate may comprise from 2 to 10% by weight of lignosulphonate. Suitable lignosulphonates are methanol-soluble or are those sold under the Trade Mark "Peritan".
