abstract 1345311 Polythiobisphenols INVENTA AG FUR FORSCHUNG UND PATENTVERWERTUNG 24 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 24480/72 Heading C2C In a process for forming a polythiobisphenol of one of the general formulµ in which n is 2 or 3 and R 1 to R 4 are the same or different and are each hydrogen, alkyl or halogen, a corresponding phenol, which is unsubstituted in the p-position to the hydroxy group or in at least one of the o-positions to the hydroxy group is treated at a temperature below 30‹ C. in a solvent and in the absence of hydrogen sulphide and catalysts, with disulphur dichloride, the solvent comprising an acid amide which is a tertiary amide and whose nitrogen carries at least one alkyl group. In examples, N,N-dimethyl formamide and N- methyl pyrrolidone are employed as solvents.
