titleOfInvention | Vacuole-free filaments and films of acrylonitrile copolymers |
abstract | 1344352 Acrylonitrile/vinyl(idine) chloride copolymer films and filaments BAYER AG 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970] 25093/71 Heading C3P Vacuole-free filaments or films are composed of a mixture of (a) 99À5-96% by weight of a copolymer of acrylonitrile with 20-80% by weight of vinyl chloride and/or vinylidene chloride and (b) 0À5-4% by weight of a homopolymer or copolymer of N,N-dimethylacrylamide and 0-80 mol. per cent of acrylonitrile. Copolymer (a) may also contain units of a dyeable acidic or basic monomer, e.g. styrene sulphonic acid, an olefinically unsaturated disulphonimide, vinylpyridine, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate or an olefinically unsaturated sulphobetaine. The filaments or films can be obtained by mixing polymers (a) and (b) in solution and then forming into the desired article; useful solvents for this process include dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, ethylene carbonate, γ-butyrolactone, dimethylsulphoxide, hexamethylphosphoric acid triamide, acetone or tetrahydrofuran. Examples describe the preparation of N,N- dimethylacrylamide / acrylonitrile copolymer, N,N-dimethylacrylamide homopolymer and, as comparison polymers, the corresponding copolymer and homopolymer of N-monomethylacrylamide by polymerizing the appropriate monomer(s) in tert-butanol using azodiisobutyronitrile as initiator. |
