titleOfInvention | Process for the production of oily liquid-containing microcapsules |
abstract | 1342768 Microcapsules FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 28 April 1971 [28 April 1970 (2)] 11953/71 Heading B8C Microcapsules with oily liquid cores are prepared by dispersing a polyvalent isocyanate or isothiocyanate and a compound capable of reacting therewith to form a polymer, or a prepolymer thereof, in the oily liquid, emulsifying the oily liquid in a polar liquid and causing the dispersed materials to react to form a polymer which encapsulates the oil droplets. Suitable compounds to react with the isocyanate or isothiocyanate are polyvalent hydroxy compounds, epoxy compounds, polyvalent thiols, polyvalent amines, acid anhydrides and polyvalent carboxylic acids. A catalyst may be present to promote the reaction, e.g. an amine, organometallic, organic salt, alkali metal compound, phosphine derivative or free radical forming agent. The oil may be of animal, vegetable, mineral or synthetic origin and may contain a low-boiling or polar solvent, e.g. npentane, CH2Cl2, CS2, acetone, CHCl3, methylacetate, MeOH, EtOH, MEK, benzene, ethyl acetate, ether. A surfactant and/or a protective colloid, e.g. gelatine, gum arabic, CMC, casein, starch or polyvinyl alcohol may be used to assist in dispersing the oil in the polar liquid, which is preferably water but may be ethylene glycol, glycerine, butyl alcohol and octyl alcohol. |
