abstract | 1342682 Amine salts of starch half-esters A E STALEY MFG CO 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1970] 22038/71 Heading C3U [Also in Division D1] An amine salt of a starch half-ester of maleic citraconic, 4-cyclohexene-1,2-di-carboxylic acid, a phthalic acid or a dicarboxylic acid of formula wherein n is at least 2, the amine used having no Zerewitinoff hydrogen and the amine salt of the starch half-ester having a degree of substitution of 0À005 to 0À1, a pH range of 4-7 in aqueous solution and a moisture content of at least 4 wt. per cent is obtained by treating the starch in aqueous suspension simultaneously with the acid anhydride of the dicarboxylic acid and the amine at a pH of 4-7. The starch may be derived from corn, wheat, potato, sorghum, waxy maize, tapioca, rice, and sweet potato or their oxidized forms, or may be a hydroxyalkyl starch. Sizing compositions comprising the starch salt, wax and a binder (sodium polyacrylate) are used for processing yarns of polyester, nylon, acrylic fibre or mixtures with wool, rayon and cotton. |
