abstract | 1340524 Cycloalkene polymerization GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 4 Nov 1970 [4 Dec 1969] 52394/70 Heading C3P [Also in Division C5] In the polymerization of cycloalkenes containing a 4-, 5-, 8- or higher membered ring and no conjugated aliphatic unsaturation by means of a catalyst for the ring-opening polymerization and olefin metathesis reactions, the molecular weight of the product is controlled by including a suitable quantity, not exceeding 1 mole per 6À5 moles of the alicyclic compound of an alkene of formula G 2 C = CHG in the reaction mixture, where G is H, CH 3 or CH 2 D and D is a hydrocarbyl group. In the example cyclooctene is polymerized with a WCl 6 .EtOH/EtAlCl 2 catalyst in the presence of 3-hexene. |
