titleOfInvention Apparatus for dispensing a predetermined and variable volume of liquid
abstract 1338607 Dry cleaning apparatus KINGSDOWN INSTRUMENT CO Ltd 5 Jan 1971 [12 June 1970] 28482/70 Heading D1A [Also in Division F1] In a dry cleaning apparatus, Fig. 1, a predetermined and variable volume of liquid is fed to a rotatable drum 8 from apparatus, Fig. 2, which comprises a chamber 2, a closable dry cleaning liquid inlet, a liquid outlet 6, an inlet for introducing gas into the chamber 2 and an outlet for permitting the escape of air displaced by the incoming liquid, which air outlet is variable in height relative to the inside of the chamber 2 to vary the volume of liquid dispersed. As shown, a shaft 11 rotatable by a knob 16, forms the gas inlet and air outlet, and has a bore 14 in which a bent tube 15 is inserted so that rotation of the shaft 11 varies the height of the end 17 of the tube 15 within the chamber 2. A three-way valve 4 which may be electrically operated, is set to permit escape of air when liquid enters through a pipe 9 from a storage tank 1, and when the liquid covers the end 17, is set to admit gas to discharge the liquid through a spray nozzle 7 to the rotatable drum 8. The inlet 9 may enter the chamber 2 in any of its walls. The joint where the shaft 11 meets the chamber 2 is sealed by a sealing gland 12 in a housing 13. The tank 1 may have a number of compartments for various liquids, e.g. soaps and other detergents, moisture, silicones, compounds for imparting stain resistance, water resistance, fire resistance or moth proofing properties.
