titleOfInvention Cyanoethylation of aminophenols
abstract 1338522 Cyanoalkylated aminophenols HOWARD HALL & CO 23 May 1972 [1 June 1971] 24257/72 Heading C2C N-cyanoalkylated aminophenols of the general formula in which R is hydrogen or 2-cyanoethyl are prepared by reacting acrylonitrile with an aqueous solution of a water-soluble salt of o, m or p aminophenol while maintaining the temperature below about 100‹ C. and thereafter neutralizing the reaction mixture to liberate the resulting free N-substituted aminophenol. The monocyano ethylated compound is obtained by reacting equimolar amounts of reactants and the dicyano ethylated compound by using an excess of acrylonitrile.
