titleOfInvention Process for the production of acyl isocyanide dichlorides and carboxylic acid chlorides
abstract 1335606 Acyl isocyanide dichlorides; carboxylic acid chlorides BAYER AG 19 July 1971 [21 July 1970] 33758/71 Heading C2C Acyl isocyanide dichlorides or the corresponding isocyanates or chlorocarbonyl imide chlorides are produced by reacting an acid anhydride as defined below with an isocyanate dichloride of formula R.CCl 2 .N=CCl 2 , in which R represents H, halogen, C 1-4 alkyl or haloalkyl, aryl optionally substituted by halogen or C 1-4 alkyl or alkoxy, or nitro, or a heterocyclic radical being a 5 or 6 membered nitrogencontaining ring optionally substituted by halogen, in the presence of a Lewis acid at 0-300‹ C., the acid anhydride thereby being converted to the acid chloride. The acid anhydride is a compound containing at least one carboxylic acid anhydride group and/or mixed carboxylic acid-sulphonic acid anhydride group, which compound contains no other groups (except COOH or SO 3 H groups) capable of reacting with isocyanide dichlorides. The dichloride product will generally be of the formula R-CO-N=CCl 2 but occasionally isocyanates or chlorocarbonyl imide chlorides may be isolated, respectively of formula
