1333412 Pivot joints J M SHEEHAN 19 Oct 1971 [22 July 1970] 35562/70 Heading E2F [Also in Division A5] A prosthetic joint comprises a pair of limbs and means for retaining the limbs in contact, wherein one of the limbs has a forked end, each furcation of which being of plate-like construction and forming on its edge an arcuate rolling surface 1', Fig. 2, and wherein the other limb has a head 6, Fig. 3, including a pair of grooves 8, each groove engaging one of the arcuate rolling surfaces 1'. Each furcation is provided with an inwardly-directed flange 3 which engages with a stud 7 integral with the head 6, the spacing between the flanges increasing from the in-line position of the limbs to the bent position. The head, which is preferably of plastics material, is removably located in a recess 10 of its associated limb, and is retained therein by means of a bayonet joint 11, 12, or a screw thread (not shown), and pins or screws 14. The remainder of the joint is manufactured from a suitable metal such as chrome cobalt alloy or a stainless steel. |
