abstract 1332894 Oxo process JOHNSON MATTHEY & CO Ltd 1 Oct 1970 [1 Oct 1969] 29581/73 Divided out of 1332893 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Unsaturated organic compounds are hydroformylated or carbonylated in the presence of a catalyst formed by absorbing on to a solid porous support a solution of a hydride carbonyl bis or tris(tri-substituted phosphine) rhodium compound. Specified unsaturated organic compound feeds are acetylenic compounds, carbonyl compounds and olefins. The process is particularly suitable for the hydroformylation of C 2-10 terminal olefins to aldehydes. Reaction conditions specified are a temperature of up to 200‹ C. and a pressure of 0À5-500 atmos. The example describes the hydroformylation of propene to n-butyraldehyde, but-1-ene to n-valeraldehyde; pent-1-ene to n-hexaldehyde, hex-1-ene to n-heptaldehyde, cis/trans pent-2-ene to 2-methyl valeraldehyde and cyclohexene to cyclohexyl aldehyde.
