abstract | 1332556 Toothpaste ALBERTO-CULVER CO 19 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 26471/71 Heading A5B A toothpaste contains (a) at least 50% of an abrasive based on the weight of solids present and (b) at least 20% based on the weight of liquids present of a polyalkylene glycol which is soluble in water or in the liquid ingredients of the composition, has a molecular weight of at least 200 and whose akylene glycol radicals contain 2-4 carbon atoms. The abrasive may be dicalcium phosphate dihydrate, aluminium hydroxide gel, calcium sulphate, calcium pyrophosphate, tricalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, or insoluble sodium metaphosphate. The polyalkylene glycol may be polyethylene glycol, a mixture of polyethylene glycols of different molecular weights, a diethylene glycol-propylene oxide adduct or a dipropylene glycolpropylene oxide adduct. The composition may also include a humectant, e.g. glycerol, propylene glycol or sorbitol, a surface active agent, e.g. sodium lauryl sulphoacetate, sodium lauryl sulphate, sulphocolaurate, sodium N-lauroyl sarcosinate, sodium coconut fatty acid monoglyceride sulphate, soap or aluminium octoate, a hydrophobic colloid, e.g. gum arabic, ghatti, gum karaya, gum tragacanth, Irish moss, sodium alginate, bentonite, veegum, methyl cellulose or sodium carboxymethylcellulose, perfume, colouring, an anti-decay agent, an enzyme, a sweetener, e.g. sodium saccharin, flavouring, methyl paraben, propyl paraben and/or a carboxyvinyl polymer. |
