titleOfInvention Optical resolution of dl-tryptophan derivatives
abstract 1330573 Resolving tryptophan AJINOMOTO CO Inc 8 Sept 1971 [12 Sept 1970] 41994/71 Heading C2C DL-Tryptophan monohydrohalides are resolved by contacting a saturated or supersaturated solution of the DL-tryptophan monohydrohalide, containing the corresponding free hydrogen halide (hydrohalic acid), with crystals of at least one of the enantiomorphs, and separating the resulting grown crystals. Conventional seeding and crystallization procedures may be used, including the use of both enantiomorphs simultaneously as seed crystals but of different mesh size, the resulting crystals being separable because of their different sizes; and the passage of the solution through a vessel containing seed crystals of one enantiomorph and then through another vessel containing seed crystals of the other enantiomorph. Crystals of tryptophan monohydrochloride Trp.HCl and hemihydrochloride (Trp) 2 .HCl are obtained from aqueous HCl solutions of tryptophan.
