titleOfInvention Colourimetric testing relating to cattle dip solutions
abstract 1329449 Estimation of insecticidal phosphorus containing compounds BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM GmbH 20 Oct 1970 [21 Oct 1969] 49814/70 Heading B1X A method of estimating insecticidal phosphorus containing compounds present as the active ingredient in a solution of cattle dip comprises first extracting the compound, e.g. O,O - diethyl - O - (2,5 - dichloro - 4 - bromophenyl)-thiophosphate with a lipophilic solvent, e.g. benzene. The solvent is then evaporated and the residue reaction, with heating, with e.g. 4-(p-nitrobenzyl) pyridine, preferably in the presence of a higher boiling solvent, e.g. cyclohexanone or acetophenone or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic amine, e.g. cyclohexylamine or tetraethylene pentamine. The coloured reaction product so formed is mixed with a solvent, e.g. ethyl or butyl acetate, and the colour compared with standard solutions.
