titleOfInvention Acrylic fibre and a method for manufacturing the same
abstract 1329126 Acrylonitrile copolymer fibres MITSUBISHI RAYON CO Ltd 1 Dec 1970 [11 Dec 1969 31 March 1970] 57229/70 Heading C3P Fibres are formed from acrylonitrile copolymers comprising at least 50% by wt. of (a) acrylonitrile and less than 50% but not less than 1% of (b) a compound of the formula RCOR<SP>1</SP>NHCOCR<SP>11</SP>=CH 2 in which R and R<SP>11</SP> are H or C 1 -C 10 alkyl and R<SP>1</SP> is ethylene or alkyl-substituted ethylene containing no more than 15 carbons, (c) a monomer selected from hydroxyl-containing monomers, carboxyl monomers or their salts, sulphonic acid monomers or their salts, amide monomers, polyethylene glycol acrylates and methacrylates, vinyl pyrrolidone and other monomers with polyethylene glycol side chains and optionally (d) a fourth monomer. The fibres may also be formed from a mixture of such a copolymer with a different copolymer containing at least 85% acrylonitrile. In examples, monomer (c) is sodium vinylbenzene sulphonate, acrylic acid, sodium acrylate, hydroxyethyl acrylate, N-vinylpyrrolidone, polyethylene glycol C 18 alkyl ether monoacrylate, polyethylene glycol monononylphenol ether monomethacrylate, a di-polyethyleneglycol ether itaconate, polyethyleneglycol ether acrylamide, itaconic acid, methacrylic acid, and other polyethylene glycol ether acrylates or itaconates. In two examples vinyl acetate is present as a fourth monomer. The other copolymers used in the examples contain vinyl acetate, methyl acrylate and sodium vinylbenzene sulphonate, methyl acrylate, or vinyl acetate and methacrylic acid as comonomers. The copolymer or mixture of copolymers is dissolved in dimethyl formamide or acetamide or dimethyl sulphoxide and wet or dry spun.
