titleOfInvention Process for the sulphonation of a mixture of an olefin and an aromatic hydrocarbon
abstract 1328743 Sulphonation of olefines and aromatic hydrocarbons COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE RAFFINAGE 22 Nov 1971 [24 Nov 1970] 54224/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] A mixture of an olefine and an aromatic hydrocarbon are sulphonated by: (a) carrying out a first sulphonation with a deficiency of sulphonating agent, e.g. sulphur trioxide, relative to the sulphonatable hydrocarbons. (b) Treatment of the efflux from (a) with an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal base. (c) Carrying out a second sulphonation on the organic phase from (b) with an excess of sulphonating agent relative to the sulphonatable hydrocarbons, and (d) Treatment of the efflux from (c) with an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal base. Such mixtures may be used as detergent compositions.
