titleOfInvention Carbamates based on ethylene oxide adducts
abstract 1318564 Softening textiles ATLAS CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES INC 8 June 1970 [9 June 1969 (2)] 27497/70 Heading D1P [Also in Division C3] Cotton, rayon, linen, wool, nylon, polyester, acrylics or blends thereof are softened by treatment with novel carbamates of ethylene oxide adducts in which said carbamate contains at least one oxyethylene group, at least one C 12-28 fatty group, and at least one -OCON(R 1 )CH 2 OH group (wherein R 1 denotes hydrogen or methylol) and prepared by methylolating a reaction product of urea or an alkyl carbamate with either (1) an ethylene oxide adduct of a C 12-28 fatty acid, (2) an ethylene oxide adduct of a fatty amine RR'NH (wherein R denotes C 12-28 alkyl or alkenyl and R' denotes C 1-28 alkyl or alkenyl), (3) an ethylene oxide adduct of a partial ester of a C 12-28 fatty acid and a C 3-6 polyhydric alcohol containing from 2 to 6 hydroxyl groups, or (4) a partial ester of a C 12-28 fatty acid and an adduct of ethylene oxide and a C 3-6 polyhydric alcohol containing 2 to 6 hydroxy groups. The above compounds are preferably applied from aqueous dispersions containing wetting agents such as polyoxyethylene (9.2) nonyl phenol, laten acid catalysts such as zinc nitrate, and durable press agents such as dimethylol dihydroxy ethyleneurea, dimethylol-5, 5-dimethyl propyleneurea and dimethylol methoxy ethyl carbamate, and application is followed by heat curing.
