titleOfInvention Method and apparatus for the application of treating materials to corrugated fibreboard
abstract 1316857 Treating corrugated fibreboard COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION 8 July 1970 [9 July 1969] 33079/70 Heading D1L Corrugated fibreboard comprising a corrugated layer sandwiched between two liners is treated with a liquid (e.g. a liquid wax or bituminous compound, an adhesive or polymer precursor) in its internal channels by applying slugs of the liquid to successive channels at one edge of the moving, horizontal board, and drawing them across the channels by a pressure differential. As described the edges of the board pass between two shoes 4, 6. A partial vacuum is drawn at shoe 6. Shoe 4 is divided into three regions; 14 where the channels are blocked off and thus evacuated; 16 where the liquid is supplied; and 17 which is vented to the air. The length of region 17 is variable by moving slide 18. Excess liquid is removed and recycled. The board is conveyed between two impervious belts (7, 8) which assist in maintaining vacuum. The liquid may be supplied under a positive pressure and if this is high enough the vacuum may be dispensed with. In such case the belts (7, 8) are not needed. The board may be heated and/or cooled before and/or after treatment.
