titleOfInvention Phenylalanine derivatives and a process for the manufacture thereof
abstract 1315611 Pharmaceutical compositions containing dopa derivatives F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 29 Oct 1971 [30 Oct 1970] 50330/71 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions having hypotensive, antipyretic or anti-Parkinson properties comprise a compound of formula: wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, R 1 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, nitro or dialkylamino group, R 2 represents (a) a phenylthio, alkylsulphonyl or phenylsulphonyl group, which groups may be substituted by hydroxy, alkoxy, alkylsulphonyl, halogen, nitro, cyano, alkyl-substituted aminocarbonyl, alkanoyloxy or alkyl, or (b) an alkanoyl group which is substituted by hydroxy, alkoxy, alkylthio, phenylthio (which may be alkyl-substituted), halogen, cyano, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, alkyl-substituted aminocarbonyl or alkanoyloxy, or (c) an alkoxycarbonyl or alkyl-substituted aminocarbonyl group, and R 3 represents a hydroxy group, an alkoxy group which may be phenyl substituted or an amino group which may be alkyl substituted, or a salt thereof and a carrier or diluent and optionally a peripheral decarboxylase inhibitor such as benzylidenacetophenone, L-3-(3, 4 dihydroxyphenyl)-2-methylalanine, a compound of formula: wherein P is H or an amino-C 2-7 alkanoyl group which may be hydroxy substiuted and n is 2 or 3, or a compound of formula: wherein Q is H or C 1-7 alkyl. The preparation may be in standard forms for enteral or parenteral administration. However when they contain a carboxylase inhibitor the above compound of formula I is preferably in a core which is coated with a substance resistant to gastric juice and then coated with a layer containing the carboxylase inhibitor.
