titleOfInvention N,n-dialkyl-naphthamides and their use in herbicidal compositions
abstract 1314245 N,N-Dialkyl-naphthamides MONTECATINI EDISON SpA and A BARUFFINI F GIALDI and R PONCI 10 June 1970 [10 June 1969 1 Aug 1969] 28202/70 Heading C2C The invention comprises N,N,dialkyl-naphthamides of formula in which the grouping COY may be in position 1 or 2 and, when it is in position 2, Z represents a hydrogen atom and Y represents the grouping -N(sec.-butyl) 2 , while, when it is in position 1, Z represents a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom and Y represents the grouping where, when R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are identical, they both represent isopropyl, see.-butyl or sec.-amyl groups, and, when R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are different from one another, R<SP>1</SP> represents see.-butyl while R<SP>2</SP> represents a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms. These compounds may be prepared by reacting a suitable naphthoyl chloride with an appropriate see.-amine in an inert anhydrous solvent in the presence of an acid acceptor. Many compounds are specified. The invention also comprises a herbicidal composition containing as an active herbicidal component a N,N-dialkyl-naphthamide of the above formula.
