titleOfInvention | Phosphorus-containing dibromoeopentyl glycol ester derivatives |
abstract | 1312211 Phosphorus-containing dibromoneopentyl ester derivatives STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 5 May 1971 [6 May 1970] 13327/71 Heading C2P [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises compounds of the general formulae in which X is O or S, Y is Cl or Br, R 1 and R 2 are H, phenyl, cyclohexyl, or the same or different C 1 to C 10 alkyl radicals or R 1 and R 2 together with the N atom to which they are attached form a ring containing 2, 4, 5 or 6 carbon atoms, e.g. an aziridine, piperidine, pyrrolidine or hexamethylenimine ring. The compounds I may be obtained by reacting dibromo-neopentyl glycol with a compound PXY 3 , e.g. POCl 3 , POBr 3 and PSCl 3 in the presence of a solvent, e.g. benzene, suitably at between 0‹ and 100‹ C., until evolution of hydrogen halide is essentially complete and the compounds II may be obtained by reacting compounds I with a secondary amine (R 1 )(R 2 )NH, the reaction being preferably effected in a solvent, e.g. chloroform, at below 10‹ C. The compounds have flameretardant properties. |
