titleOfInvention Polyols containing halogen and phosphorus and process for making them
abstract 1310797 Phosphorus - containing polyols KNAPSACK AG 7 July 1971 [23 July 1970] 31895/71 Heading C2P The invention comprises compounds of Formula I: where n is 0 to 4, R 1 is a halogenated hydrocarbon radical or a radical of Formula II: at least one of the halogenated and at least two of the hydroxylated radicals II being present, R 2 is a radical of Formula III: R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen or C 1-6 optionally halogen-substituted hydrocarbon and m is 1 to 10. The invention also comprises mixtures comprising compounds of Formula I together with one or more compounds of Formula V: in which R 1 is the same as R 1 in the compounds of Formula I in the mixture, which mixtures may be prepared by reacting a halogenated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbyl alcohol or halogenated phenol at 20-150‹ C. for 0.5 to 5 hours with P 2 O 5 in a molar ratio of less than 3 : 1 or with a polyphosphoric acid, or a mixture thereof with P 2 O 5 , and reacting the partially esterified polyphosphoric acid mixture produced with a 1-R 3 -substituted-2-R 4 -substituted ethylene oxide. The first stage of the reaction may be carried out in the presence of a phosphorous acid stabilizer and a disodium phosphate regulator, and the reaction mixture may be cooled before the second stage of the reaction.
