titleOfInvention | Production of esters of polyols containing a neopentyl group |
abstract | 1310226 Neopentyl esters IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 Aug 1970 [17 Sept 1969] 45867/69 Heading C2C Esters of polyols containing a neopentyl group are prepared by reacting a stoichiometric excess of an ester of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid and of a C 1 - aliphatic alcohol at an elevated temperature in the presence of a transesterification catalyst, such as sodium hydroxide, sodium alkoxide, p-toluene sulphuric acid, with a polyol containing a neopentyl group. Suitable polyols are neopentyl glycol, trimethylol propane and pentaerythritol. Suitable carboxylic acids are C 6-11 acids. Methyl (or ethyl) n-nonanoate is prepared by reacting octene-1, carbon monoxide, methanol (or ethanol) in the presence of pyridine and dicobalt octacarbonyl. |
