titleOfInvention | Acidic zinc electrolytes |
abstract | 1309946 Electro-depositing glossy zinc SCHERING AG 8 April 1970 [12 April 1969] 16668/70 Heading C7B Glossy zinc is electro-deposited from an acidic zinc electrolyte containing at least one poly-ethylene glycol and a ketone of formula R 1 CO R 2 each represents an aryl, a coumarinyl or 5- or 6- membered heterocyclic group containing N and/or S and/or O, alone or attached to a saturated or unsaturated bivalent hydrocarbon group (e.g. up to 4C), or represents a phenylcarbonylalkyl group, or in which R 1 represents one of the above and R 2 a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group (e.g. up to 4C), an alkoxycarbonylalkyl or a cyanoalkyl group. Many examples of ketones are specified in which R 1 , R 2 each represents a (substituted) phenyl, naphthyl, coumarinyl, pyridyl, furyl, thienyl or pyranyl group, which may be attached to a vinylene group, or a phenylcarbonylmethyl group. The polyethylene glycol can have 5-500 CH 2 CH 2 O units and a total concentration of 0À1- 20 g/l. The total concentration of the ketone is preferably 0À01-5 g/l. The electrolyte may also contain, besides zinc and ammonium chloride or sulphate, sodium chloride or sulphate, optionally boric acid and/or an aliphatic and/or aromatic carboxylic acid, e.g. acetic, benzoic or salicylic acid, other glossing agents e. g. aromatic aldehydes, and a wetting agent e.g. Na-n-octylsulphate. The electrolyte may be agitated by air injection or cathode movement. |
