1309401 Fluoro-polyethers MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 9 March 1970 [10 March 1969] 11232/70 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] A linear OH-terminated poly(perfluoroalkene oxide) (P) has formula R and R<SP>1</SP> are OH-substituted organic radicals. The (CF 2 CF 2 O) and (CF 2 O) backbone subunits are randomly distributed. m/n is from 0À2 to 5. R and R<SP>1</SP> may be -CH 2 OH, or where R<SP>11</SP> is H, ethylol, or C 1-8 alkyl. (P) may be liquid with glass transition temp. - 78‹ C., e.g. - 125‹ C., and number average M.W. 500- 10,000. (P) may be formed by reducing the corresponding ester, carboxy, or acyl halide precursor. The reduction may be performed with LiAlH 4 or NaBH 4 with refluxing of, e.g. tetrahydrofuran, diglyme, or dioxane; or by catalytic hydrogenation with a copper chromium oxide catalyst. Uses.-In lubricants, for hydraulic fluids, water and oil repellents, surfactants, anticorrosion agents, anti-stick or mould-release agents, flotation agents, and as plasticizers for fluorinated plastics. |
