titleOfInvention | Process for growing cells of an aerobic microorganism in a culture medium and separating the cells form the culture medium |
abstract | 1309367 Cultivating micro-organisms on hydrocarbons MOBIL OIL CORP 19 April 1971 [5 Feb 1970] 21150/71 Heading C6F In the method of producing cells of an aerobic hydrocarbon-utilizing micro-organism (bacteria, fungi, yeasts and moulds) by cultivating the microorganism on a culture medium comprising a hydrocarbon, an aqueous mineral salt nutrient solution and a surfactant (specified) in the presence of oxygen, the amount of the hydrocarbon is maintained at at least 0À04 per cent by weight and the cells are generally recovered when the weight ratio of the cells to hydrocarbon is in the range of 10 : 6À5 to 4 : 1 i.e. at least 1 part oil for every 4 parts cells. Gaseous or solid hydrocarbon substrates may be used by dissolving them in a normally liquid hydrocarbon solvent. |
