titleOfInvention Direct positive silver halide photographic material
abstract 1308733 Direct-positive photographic silver halide material FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 3 May 1971 [4 May 1970] 12771/71 Heading G2C A direct-positive silver halide photographic material comprises a silver halide emulsion layer and at least one adjacent layer, at least one of said layers containing at least one sensitizing dye of the formula:- Wherein R and R' are each optionally substituted alkyl; L is a methine chain; Z represents the atoms necessary to form a heterocyclic nucleus having a 5- or 6-membered N-containing ring; X<SP>-</SP> is an anion; and n is 0 or 1, and at least one water-soluble polymer having a repeating unit of the formula:- wherein R 1 is H or methyl; R 2 is -OH, -OCOR 3 , -COOR 3 , -CN, -CONH 2 -CONHR 3 , -CONR 3 R 4 , phenyl, -N(CH 3 ) COR 5 , -COOH or p-Mo 3 S-phenyl, wherein M is H or potassium; R 3 and R 4 are each 1-4c alkyl; R 5 is H, methyl or ethyl; and x is a positive integer of 50-100. The dye is preferably present at 1-200 mg per mole of silver halide and the polymer preferably has a molecular weight of 5, 000 to 500, 000 and is present at 0À5g-50g per mole of silver halide. This material has a high sensitivity to reversal and little or no residual colour density due to the dye. The material may also contain known desensitizers.
