titleOfInvention Super-sensitized silver halide photographic emulsions
abstract 1307904 Supersensitized silver halide photographic emulsions FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 26 March 1970 [27 March 1969] 14955/70 Heading G2C A silver halide photographic emulsion contains at least one sensitizing dye of the formula: - in which R is alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or hydrogen, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are alkyl, allyl or substituted alkyl, at least one of R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> being said substituted alkyl group, Z<SP>1</SP> represents the atoms required to complete a naphthothiazole, naphthoselenazole or naphthoxazole nucleus, Z<SP>2</SP> represents the atoms required to complete a naphthothiazole, benzothiazole, naphthoselenazole, benzoselenazole, naphthoxazole or benzimidazole nucleus, X<SP>1-</SP> is an acid anionic group and n is 1 or 2, the dye being an intramolecular salt when n is 1, in supersensitizing combination with at least one sensitizing dye of the formula: - in which R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> represent alkyl, allyl or substituted alkyl, Z<SP>3</SP> completes a 2-quinoline nucleus which may be substituted by alkyl having up to 4 carbon atoms, Z<SP>4</SP> completes a 2-quinoline nucleus which may be substituted by an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, alkoxy, OH or halogen, unsubstituted benzothiazole, benzothiazole substituted by an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, aphenyl group or halogen, unsubstituted benzoselenazole or benzoselenazole substituted by an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, aphenyl group or halogen, X<SP>2-</SP> is an acid anionic group, and m is 1 or 2, the dye being an intramolecular salt when m is 1. Many examples of these sensitizing dyes are given. The spectral sensitivities in the red and green ranges are raised by supersensitization.
