abstract | 1307601 Flame resist treatment DAVID CLARK CO Inc 5 Jan 1970 454/70 Heading DIP [Also in Division C3] The heat and flame resistance of synthetic wholly aromatic polyamide fibres is increased by contacting the fibre with a molybdenum compound and a halogen in an inert atmosphere. The fibres may be in the form of fabric or paper and made from the polyamide of phenylene diamine and iso- or tere-phthalic acid. Specified molybdenum compounds are the disulphide, pentachloride, sesquioxide and trioxide; they may be used as a suspension of “to ¥ micron particles in a liquid carrier e.g. isopropanol. Other compounds which may be present during the process are hexafluoroethylene, cobalt trifluoride, palladium, magnesium titanate, vanadium oxytrichloride and magnesium and zinc oxides. In the Example a proprietary aromatic polyamide fibrous material is saturated with a 50/50 suspension of ¢ micron MoS 2 particles in isopropanol, dried, and subjected for 30 to 45 minutes to 800‹F in a atmosphere of ¢ to 3% chlorine in nitrogen at a pressure of 0.01 inches of water and then washed rinsed and dried. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1242867. |
