titleOfInvention Production of alkoxides
abstract 1307581 Production of alkoxides MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd 22 April 1971 [5 May 1970] 21644/70 Addition to 1136016 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C3 and C7] A process for the production of an alkoxide of an element in Group IV or Va and which has an Atomic No. 14-82 or of a transition element in the 4th Period and in Group Ib, IIb, IIIa, VIa, VIIa or VIII which comprises passing an electric current through a liquid medium comprising a solution, in a monohydric alkanol having 1-4 carbon atoms per molecule, of an ammonium or quaternary ammonium salt, the anode comprising the element. The ammonium salt may be ammonium chloride or nitrate and the quaternary ammonium salt has the formula NR 1 R 2 R 3 R 4 <SP>+</SP>X-, where R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are each alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl or R 1 and R 2 or R 1 , R 2 and R 3 together with the nitrogen atom represent a heterocyclic ring and X is chloride, bromide, iodide or half a sulphate.
