abstract 1306191 Alkyl chrysanthemates STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 30 April 1971 [21 May 1970] 12347/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for preparing C 1-10 alkyl chrysanthemate esters, by (a) first preparing a C 1-10 alkyl diazoacetate by simultaneously introducing an alkali metal nitrite and an acid salt of a C 1-10 alkyl ester of glycine into a first reaction vessel and reacting the reagents in an aqueous medium in the presence of an acid catalyst, the resulting diazoacetate dissolving, as it is formed, in an organic solvent contained in the vessel which is immiscible with the aqueous medium and which does not form an emulsion thereof, (b) continuously removing the organic solvent solution and introducing it into a second reaction vessel, (c) mixing the organic solvent solution in the second reaction vessel with 2,5-dimethyl-hexadiene-2,4 and reacting therein in the presence of a transition metal catalyst with nitrogen being evolved as a by-product and (d) distilling the crude reaction product -to give the C 1-10 alkyl chrysanthemate.
